Beat Information

  • Beat One is a popular fishing spot located just off the pedestrian bridge. You can park on Riverside Avenue near the beat. Enjoy the view down the river into the canyon.

    This beat is located on River Right.

  • Beat two is a smooth stretch of river across from the Territorial Prison that opened before Colorado was a state in 1871.
    This beat is on River Right. Parking can for this beat can be found on Riverside Avenue.

  • Beat three located on River Right, near the 1st street bridge. This spot starts as a smooth, fairly shallow section of the river that deepens around the bridge.
    Parking for this beat can be found on Riverside Avenue at the corner of Riverside and 1st Street.

  • Beat 4 is located on the river left. The water here is quite deep in several places.
    The best spot to park is located on the corner of Riverside Avenue and 1st Street, where you’ll have a short walk across the bridge to the beat.

  • Located on River Left directly in front of the famous Royal Gorge Train depot, and just down river of popular raft landing spot, this section of river is very shallow to start and gets very deep on river right.

  • If you draw beat six, you’ll want to park at the free parking by the Centennial Park bridge and walk to the beat. (About 7-10 mins).
    The beat is located on River left and includes a deep section that is handicap accessible, under the railroad bridge to the other side.

  • Beat 7 is a fairly shallow and wider section of the river. Located on River Right, the beat can best be accessed by parking at the Surgery Center parking lot and walking up river to your fishing location. The walk will take about ten minutes.

  • Located on River Right, Beat 8 sits just downriver from the 9th Street bridge. Park at the Surgery Center and take the short walk to your fishing location.

  • Beat 9, located on River Right, provides has fairly steep banks, but gives you access to a small water fall. Park at the John Griffin park lot on Sells Avenue and take a short walk to your beat.

  • Beat 8, on river right, provides a variety of different water to fish. Your best spot to reach this location is to park at the John Griffin park lot off Sells Avenue.

  • Beat 11, on River Right, is a fairly shallow section of the river with the deepest part being across the river.
    To access this beat, park at the lot at John Griffin park and take the 5-7 minute walk to your fishing location.

  • Located on River Right, this section is very similar to Beat 11. This water is primarily slow and shallow with the deepest water on the opposite side of the river. You’ll have some large rocks to fish around. Park at the John Griffin park lot off of Sells Avenue and walk to your beat.

  • Beat 12, on River Right, provides a great opportunity to fish riffles, shallow water, and deep pool. To get to this location though, you have one of the longer walks of the day. The beat is located about halfway between the John Griffin park lot off Sells Avenue and The Rec Center on Ash Avenue. The walk from either location is about 10 minutes along the river walk to your beat.

    It’s well worth the walk though!

  • Located on river right, this stretch of water provides some riffles to fish in, along with some deeper water on the other side of the river. Popular among locals for its great views of the mountains and short walk from the Rec Center trailhead, this beat is usually very productive.

  • If you draw this beat, you’ve got one of the shortest walks. Park at the lot across the Rec Center and head to the water. Your fishing beat is located just downriver from gathering spot.

  • A fun stretch of river, located on river right just down the trail from the Rec Center. Its not uncommon to see locals fishing here as it is usually productive and easy to access.

  • Park at the top of hill, near the yellow access gate and follow the trail down river to your fishing beat. This spot has steep banks and provides an opportunity to fish shallow and deep water. Look up every once in a while. You may see our resident Bald Eagle trying to out fish you.
